Both Winona Christian and Carroll Academy picked up much-needed wins on the softball fields this past week.
Winona took a 15-0 won over Carroll and then lost a 14-13 decision to Central Holmes. The Lady Rebels grabbed a big 17-6 win over Jackson Victors for their lone win of the week.
Carroll was scheduled to host Benton on Monday and travel to Oak Hill on Tuesday to finish out the regular season. The Class AAA North State Tournament is scheduled to be played at Carroll.
Winona, now 13-17, was scheduled to host Indianola on Monday and will play in the North AAA Tournament on Saturday at Carroll.
Winona Christian 15, Carroll 0
The Lady Stars needed just three innings to dispatch of Carroll in a district contest on Monday.
Winona scored three runs in the first and second inning and finished off the game with nine runs in the third.
Winona had 11 hits in the contest as Haley Beckwith was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs while Lennie Wood was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Ashley Parkinson was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Hope Pierce was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. McKinley Ingram and Hannah Robertson each scored two runs apiece while Kaylah Brooke Varnes walked twice. Sara Rawles had an RBI single while Harlee Whitten singled and scored a run.
Rawles started on the mound and pitched three shutout innings to pick up the win, giving up just two hits on two strikeouts.
Meri Brynn Reeves and Kaylee Ferguson had singles for Carroll in the contest.
Carroll 17, Jackson Victors 6
The Lady Rebels picked up a much-needed win with a run-rule win over Jackson Victors on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first inning, Carroll scored six in the second, followed by three in the third, one in the fourth and finished with seven in the fifth.
Carroll had 17 hits in the contest, led by Alana Garrett who was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. Bella Carter was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, two runs scored and four RBIs. Kaitlyn Chamblee was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Helen Claire Cobb was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sara Austin Welch was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Meri Brynn Reeves doubled and drove in two runs. Presley Woods also scored two runs while Mary Jordan Milton and Peyton Perry each singled and scored a run.
The Lady Rebels had 16 stolen bases in the game as Woods had five steals. Welch had four steels while Milton had three and Cobb added two.
Peyton Perry pitched all five innings for the Lady Rebels and scattered 14 hits as she walked five and struck out four to pick up the win.
Central Holmes 14, Winona Christian 13
The Lady Stars lost a one-run heartbreaker to Central Holmes on Tuesday.
Winona scored five in the first, two in the fourth and sixth with four in the fifth and led 13-5 after six innings. Central Holmes scored two in the first, three in the third and eight in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The Lady Trojans then scored one run in the bottom of the ninth to take the win.
Winona had 15 hits in the contest while Central Holmes had 12 hits.
Hope Pierce was 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while Sara Rawles was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. McKinley Ingram was 3-for-6 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Ashleigh Parkinson was 2-for-5 and three runs scored. Harlee Whitten singled and had two RBIs while Lennie Wood walked twice. Hannah Robertson also scored twice. Pierce also had two stolen bases while Whitten was hit by a pitch twice.
Sara Rawles pitched seven innings and scattered 11 hits and two walks while striking out five. She gave up 13 runs but only one was earned. Hope Pierce pitched one-plus innings and walked four to take the loss.
Kaylee Polk was 4-for-4 with a double, two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead Central Holmes. Aubrey Carr was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBIs while Carman Edwards was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Morgan Bigbee, Ragan Brown and Landry Gardner each scored two runs apiece.
Polk started and pitched 1 2/3 innings while Carr pitched 7 1/3 innings to fish the game and pick up the win. Carr scattered 11 hits and gave up eight runs, only five earned while striking out five.
