After losing three times to Central Holmes in the regular season, the Carroll Academy Lady Rebels got the last laugh.
The Lady Rebels beat the Lady Trojans 8-3 on Saturday and ended up finishing fourth in the Class 3A North State Tournament after losing 12-10 to Winona Christian on Monday.
Carroll, 7-17 on the season, will advance to Saturday’s Class 3A state tournament at the Magee Sportsplex.
Winona 12, Carroll 10
The Lady Stars scored eight in third and held off a late rally by Carroll to eliminate the Lady Rebels from the North 3A Tournament. Carroll scored four in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Carroll had nine hits and drew nine walks. Kaylee Ferguson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Kaitlyn Chamblee had a single and four RBIs while Bella Carter and Mary Jordan Milton each singled and drove in two runs. Presley Woods walked twice and scored three runs while Alana Garrett walked twice and scored two runs. Meri Brynn Reeves and Sara Austin Welch also had doubles.
Peyton Perry pitched six innings for Carroll.
Carroll 8, Central Holmes 3
The Lady Rebels grabbed the early lead and held on to take a five-run win over the Lady Trojans on Saturday in an elimination game.
Carroll scored two in the first, four in the third and two in the sixth. Central Holmes scored one in the third and two in the fourth.
Carroll had 13 hits in the contest as Sara Austin Welch was 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored. Helen Claire Cobb was 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Mary Jordan Milton was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Meri Brynn Reeves was 2-for-4 with a double while Bella Carter and Alana Garrett each scored two runs apiece.
Peyton Perry pitched seven innings and scattered 12 hits and struck out seven.
Marshall 10, Carroll 0
The Lady Rebels opened the Class 3A North Tournament with a run-rule loss to Marshall Academy.
Sara Austin Welch had Carroll’s only hit.
Carroll 17, Oak Hill 6
In the second game of the day on Tuesday, Carroll took a run-rule win over the Lady Raiders. Carroll scored four in the first, two in the second, five in the third and six in the fifth.
Carroll had 23 hits in the contest as every batter had at least one hit. Kaitlyn Chamblee was 4-for-5 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Helen Claire Cobb was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs while Alana Garrett was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Meri Brynn Reeves was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Sara Austin Welch was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Mary Jordan Milton as 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Kaylee Ferguson was 3-for-4. Bella Carter walked three times, had two runs scored and two RBIs. Presley Woods also scored two runs.
Peyton Perry pitched 4 2/3 innings for Carroll to pick up the win.
Oak Hill 11, Carroll 10
The Lady Rebels lost despite outhitting Oak Hill 22-11 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Presley Woods was 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Helen Claire Cobb was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Meri Brynn Reeves was 3-for-3 while Mary Jordan Milton and Kaylee Ferguson were each 3-for-4. Kaitlyn Chamblee also had two RBIs.
Benton Academy 28, Carroll 11
The Lady Raiders used three big innings to take a five-inning win over the Lady Raiders on Monday.
Benton scored eight in the first, 10 in the second and nine in the fifth. Carroll scored four in the first and third, two in the second and one in the fifth.
Carroll had 11 hits as Meri Brynn Reeves was 3-for-5 with a grand slam, two runs scored and seven RBIs. Kaitlyn Chamblee was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Helen Claire Cobb was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Bella Carter was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
