The Carroll Academy Rebels created the memory of a lifetime with a dramatic baseball win last week.
Carroll scored nine runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 9-8 come-from-behind win over Marshall Academy on Tuesday.
Marshall came back and beat the Rebels 17-6 on Thursday.
Carroll is now 5-9 on the season and will finish out the season as they were set to host Humphreys on Monday for senior night and will travel to Kirk on Thursday in the regular-season finale.
Marshall 17, Carroll 6
Marshall used a nine-run fourth inning to take a five-inning, run-rule victory over the Rebels on Thursday.
Carroll opened up with three runs in the first and second innings for their runs. Marshall scored six in the first, two in the second and nine in the fourth inning.
Jacob Cutts (1-3) got the start and pitched three innings, giving up 13 runs on 10 hits and four walks. Lofton Holly pitched one inning on three hits and four walks.
Carroll scored three runs in the first inning as Gavin Wiltshire led off with a single. Andrew Montgomery and Noah Collier walked to load the bases. All three scored on a double by Dane Greenlee.
In the second, Logan Neal walks and Colby Holly followed with a single. Bubba Porter then doubled to score Neal while Wiltshire singled to score Holly. Porter then scored while Wiltshire was caught in a rundown.
Carroll 9, Marshall 8
The Rebels scored nine runs in the bottom of the seventh to come back and beat the Patriots on Tuesday.
Marshall built an eight-run lead as they scored one in the second, two in the second, three in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh.
“Going into the bottom of the seventh we only had singles by Noah Collier, Dane Greenlee, and Crawford Holly,” coach Rusty Miler said. “After every inning Coach Bryan Neal said we are going to get these guys, I can just feel it. We had been hitting the ball but right at them. What an amazing comeback! These guys never gave up”
In the seventh, Logan Neal, Colby Holly and Bubba Porter all singled. Neal and Holly then scored on a single by Gavin Wiltshire. After Andrew Montgomery walked, Noah Collier singled driving in Porter and Wiltshire. After a strikeout, Jacob Cutts walked to reload the bases. Crawford Holly reached an error to score pinch runner Hunter Graham and Collier. After another strikeout, Colby Holly walked to load the bases. Porter then came back to bat and hit a grounder to first and beat out the first baseman to the bag. Cutts scored on the play and Crawford Holly scored while the first baseman was “looking at the umpire in amazement.” Colby Holly took third and then scored the winning run on an overthrow to complete the comeback.
Lofton Holly picked up the win and improved to 2-1 in 2/3 innings of relief. Montgomery started and went 6 1/3 innings on the mound, giving up eight runs on eight hits and three walks.
