A memorial service for Marvin Green Abel, Jr. of Flowood, formerly of Montgomery County, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Randy Bridges will officiate the service.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.
Marvin Green Abel, Jr., 84, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Duck Hill to Marvin and Jewel Alexander Abel on August 19, 1941. Marvin was of the Baptist faith and a devoted reader of the Bible. In his younger years, he coached Little League baseball and enjoyed racing cars. In his earlier career he fought fires in California as a smoke jumper and prior to retirement, he worked as a law firm investigator.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeffrey Abel Ellington of Flowood; two grandchildren, Eric Todd Leslie and Devan Morgan Ellington; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Quakenbush Abel; daughters, Catherine Abel Baker and Lesley Abel; brother, William Baxter "Billy" Abel; and sisters, Sara Opal James and Margaret Ann Patridge.
