Belinda Wood Roby, a retired women’s basketball coach and a former Mississippi State University Lady Bulldog, is hosting a free basketball camp in Duck Hill from July 21 through July 24.
The camp is open to anyone ages 8 through 17 and will begin from 9 a.m. and will end around 3:30 p.m. each day. Roby said Saturday, there will be a fun day, where the participants will play in a 3-on-3 basketball game. She said it will show what the children have learned and how far they’ve come.
Roby, a 1978 graduate of Duck Hill High School, said after graduation she attended Mississippi State University where she played from 1978 until 1982. She also attended graduate school at Mississippi State. Roby coached at Tuskegee University from 1999 until 2013 when she retired.
She said that she’s always wanted to give back to her community and now is the perfect time since she’s retired.
Roby said that during the camp, children will not only learn basketball skills but they will also learn life skills.
She said no supplies are necessary, but they should be dressed in proper athletic clothing and shoes.
