The J.Z. George girls’ volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Sept. 15 as the Lady Jaguars defeated Marks Palmer High School 3-1.
The Lady Jags (1-7 overall, 1-1 in district) lost the first set, 26-24, but won the next three to take the match. They took the sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-18.
In the junior varsity match, J.Z. George won the match 2-1. Palmer won the first set, 25-19. J.Z. George took the next two sets, 25-23 and 15-10.
In a match from Sept. 12, the Lady Jags fell to Riverside 3-1. Riverside won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-13, but J.Z. George won the third set, 25-21. Riverside took the fourth set, 25-12.
J.Z. George played Leflore County Tuesday and goes to Riverside Thursday.
Winona High School
The Lady Tigers improved to 7-9 overall as it swept Amanda Elzy and Humphreys County in matches last week.
On Sept. 15, Winona beat Elzy 3-0 as it won the sets, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-15. On Sept. 13, the Lady Tigers shut out Humphreys 3-0. Winona took the sets, 25-3, 25-4 and 25-8.
Winona played host to Yazoo County Tuesday and takes on Grenada Sept. 27.
