Estelle Cooper of North Carrollton will celebrate her 100th birthday on Friday, March 27, and plans are underway by people in the community to honor her milestone.
According to Rebecca Lancaster, a small parade of vehicles, adorned with signs of well-wishes for Cooper, will drive through the circle drive at her home in North Carrollton. Cooper’s daughter, Linda Perkins, will bring her mother onto the front porch to the festivities.
According to organizer Rebecca Lancaster, those wishing to participate will meet on Cemetery Road near Evergreen Cemetery to affix signs to their cars and line up for the parade. The parade is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Lancaster said the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic led to the cancelation of a large parade planned to go down Lexington/George streets, from the Carroll County Courthouse to North Carrollton. However, she asked Perkins if they could still do something on a smaller scale.
“We want to let her know we are thinking about her,” Lancaster said. “So far 15 people are planning on [participating]. There will even be fire trucks, without the siren.”
Lancaster said after circling in front of Cooper’s home, participants will stop and place the signs from their cars on a large board in her front yard.
“That way she can enjoy them later,” Lancaster said.
