Both Carroll Academy teams made their way to the District 1-AA finals on Saturday in their own gym.
But neither team came away with a district championship as Oak Hill beat the Rebels 38-33 while the Lady Rebels fell 34-24 to Marshall.
Both teams advanced to the Class AA North State Tournament which will be hosted by Benton Academy.
The Lady Rebels will take on Greenville St. Joseph on Wednesday at 4 p.m. while the Rebels will take on Manchester at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in opening round games. A first-round win qualifies teams for the Class AA State Tournament.
In the championship game of the district tournament, the CA boys dropped a five-point heartbreaker to Oak Hill.
Carroll led 9-7 at the end of the first period before Oak Hill took a 14-13 lead into the half. Oak Hill then took control of the game in the third period as they outscored Carroll 11-5 to lead 25-18 going into the fourth. Carroll outscored the Raiders 15-13 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough as Oak Hill took the win.
Reese Fulton led Carroll with 12 points while Michael O’Brien had nine points and Logan Taylor added five points.
The Rebels led the entire way as the knocked off the No. 1 seed Marshall by nine points, 44-35, on Thursday night in the tournament semifinals.
Carroll took a 12-8 lead after the first and led 22-16 at the half. The Rebels outscored the Patriots 9-8 in the third and 13-11 in the fourth to take the win.
Fulton had a big game with another double-double as he scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. O’Brien scored 12 points and had five steals while Taylor added seven points.
After splitting games in the regular season, took the rubber match over Winona Christians as the Rebels took a four-point win on Tuesday night to end the Stars’ season, with a 34-30 victory.
Carroll held slim leads in the first half, leading 9-7 at the end of the first and 14-13 at the half. Winona took the lead in the third period as they outscored the Rebels 12-5 to take a 25-19 lead at the half. But the Rebels bounced back as they outscored the Stars 15-5 in the fourth to take the win.
Fulton posted another double-double as he had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Taylor had 12 points and six rebounds. O’Brien had seven points and seven steals.
Lady Rebels
The Lady Rebels overcame a first-period deficit to take a five-point win over the Lady Trojans of Central Holmes Central Holmes led 12-8 at the end of the first period but Carroll exploded in the second period, outscoring the Lady Trojans 18-9 to lead 26-21 at the half. The Lady Rebels were able to maintain that advantage in the second half to take the win.
Caroline Mumme led Carroll with 18 points and three steals while Sandy Rhea Tackett had 14 points and seven rebounds. Gracie Turner also pulled down seven rebounds.
In the girls championship game, the Lady Rebels struggled from the field in the 34-24 loss to Marshall..
The game was tight the first half as Marshall led 5-4 at the end of the first and the game was tied at 10-10 at the half. But Marshall pulled away in the third period as they outscored Carroll 15-1 to take the win.
Tackett led Carroll with seven points while Kalie Teal had five points. Turner pulled down 10 rebounds while Lainey Claire Dunn also had five rebounds.
