The Winona Christian School Stars will get one last test before they dive into division basketball play.
WCS makes the trip to Columbus to take on Columbus Christian in its annual Christmas Classic.
The Stars were set to play the first game on Wednesday as they took on the Rams in a 5 p.m. contest. The Lady Stars will then follow them in a 6:15 p.m. contest. Prior to Wednesday’s 5 p.m. game, former Mississippi State football player and founder of Father’s Child Ministry Edward Yeates was to give a short devotion.
“We played really good the last two games out of district play,” Winona Christian boys coach Keith Ware said. “If we can play as hard and with the same intensity, I think we have a good chance to compete in all our district games. We just need to be more consist.”
Winona Christian will return the next day as the Stars will take on Nanih Waiya in a 1:15 p.m. contest. The Stars’ junior varsity team will play the early game at noon against Columbus Christian. The Winona Christian girls are not scheduled to play on Thursday in the tournament.
After the Christmas tournament, the Stars will begin the majority of their division play as they host Carroll on Friday, Jan. 5. The Stars will play at home the next week as they host Marshall on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and Oak Hill on Friday, Jan. 12. On Saturday, Jan. 13, the Stars will head to Kirk Academy.
