The Carroll Academy Lady Rebels reeled off three wins last week, kicking things off by beating division foe Winona 41-24 and following that up with a 37-31 win over Benton and a 63-21 blowout over Central Holmes.
The Rebels picked up two of three wins as they beat Winona 44-35 in a division contest before hammering Benton 68-27. The Rebels lone loss came to Central Holmes 41-39 on Friday.
Carroll is now off until Dec. 28 when it will play in the Kirk Classic in Grenada. Carroll will play Washington starting at noon on Thursday, followed by the boys at 1:15 p.m. On Friday, Carroll will take on Indianola starting at noon with a boys game against the Colonels to start at 1:15 p.m. Then on Saturday, Dec. 30, the Lady Rebels will take on defending AAA champion Kirk in a 2:45 p.m. contest while the Rebels will take on the homestanding Raiders at 4 p.m.
The CA Girls used a stifling defense to grab their first division win of the season over Winona Christian on Tuesday night.
Carroll jumped out to a 9-3 in in the first period and outscored the Lady Stars 11-3 in the second period to lead 20-6 at the half. Carroll extended its lead in the third, outscoring Winona 8-4 to lead 28-12 going into the fourth.
Caroline Mumme led Carroll with 15 points and six steals. Sandy Rhea Tackett had eight points and four steals while Belle Sanders had eight points and six rebounds. Gracie Turner claimed nine rebounds for CA.
The Lady Rebels used a big fourth period to pull away and complete a comeback against Benton on Monday.
Benton led 6-5 at the end of the first period and 17-12 at the half. Benton extended its lead in the third period, outscoring Carroll 10-7 to take a 27-19 lead into the fourth. Carroll then outscored Benton 18-4 in the fourth to take the win.
Mumme led the Lady Rebels with 20 points and also had six steals and six rebounds. Sanders had seven points and four steals while Tackett had six points. Lainey Claire Dunn also pulled down five rebounds.
The Lady Rebels had little trouble dispatching Central Holmes on Friday night.
CA jumped out to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first period and led 32-17 at the half. Carroll continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Central Holmes 18-4 in the third and 11-0 in the fourth.
Mumme had another huge game as she pumped in 26 points and six steals. Sanders had 12 points and six rebounds while Tackett had nine points and six rebounds. Turner also chipped in eight points for the winners
Rebels
The Rebels built an eight-point lead in the first period and pulled away late to take the 44-35 win over the Stars.
Carroll jumped out to a 14-6 lead after the first period but Winona started to chip away at the lead as they outscored the Rebels 9-7 in the second and 12-9 in the third to make the score 30-27 heading into the fourth. But Carroll pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Winona 14-8 to take the win.
Reese Fulton led Carroll with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Austin Smith had 10 points and seven rebounds. Logan Taylor also chipped in seven points for the Rebels.
The Rebels used a big first half and cruised to a 41-point win over Benton Academy on Monday.
Carroll led 17-4 at the end of the first period and outscored Benton 34-9 in the second to lead 51-13 at the half. Carroll then outscored Benton 10-9 in the third and 7-5 in the fourth for the final margin.
Fulton led Carroll with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Logan Taylor added 20 points. Michael O’Brien also chipped in eight points.
The Carroll Academy boys made a furious comeback attempt but fell short as Central Holmes held on for a two-point win in another game played last week.
Central Holmes led 12-7 at the end of the first and 25-15 at the half. After each teams scored seven in the third to make the score 32-22, Carroll outscored Central Holmes 17-11 in the fourth to make the game tight.
Fulton led Carroll with 29 points and 11 rebounds while Smith scored six.
