Tigers open region play vs Aberdeen

Winona High School’s football team has the “preseason” out of the way and can now focus on the regular season, said head coach DeAngelo Ballard.

The Tigers took care of business last week as they posted a 41-8 win over Amanda Elzy in Greenwood to improve to 2-3 overall with their second straight win.

Lady Tigers enter playoffs as no. 3 seed

Winona High School’s Lady Tigers volleyball team will go into the playoffs this weekend as the No. 3 seed from Region 4-3A after dropping a 3-0 match to visiting Nettleton High School Monday.

Winona (14-9 overall, 5-3 in region) dropped the sets 25-15, 25-19 and 25-20.

Carroll Academy’s girls fastpitch softball season came to an end over the weekend as they went 0-2 at the North 2A Regional Tournament, which was being held at Canton Academy.

Carroll (3-20) lost 9-1 to Benton Academy and 10-4 to Newton Academy.
