Silas DuBard "Matt" Massey

Silas DuBard "Matt" Massey, 85, of Kilmichael passed away at Life Pointe Village in Southaven on Tuesday, February 26.

Visitation was Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial followed in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery near Kilmichael, with military honors at graveside.  Rev. Rupert Ingram officiated the services.  

Mr. Massey was born to John E. and Myrtle DuBard Massey in Zama on Feb. 6, 1934.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years of service, with the rank of Sergeant First Class.  During his time in the Army, he earned several medals and commendations, including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.  After retiring from the Army, Mr. Massey owned and operated a machine tool service and sales business for many years.  He was a member and deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Kilmichael and a 32nd Degree Mason.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Hovas Massey; son, Mark Dewayne Massey; his parents; one sister; and two brothers.
 

Mr. Massey is survived by three sons, Michael Massey (Melissa) of Biloxi, Tony Massey (Kelly) of Horn Lake, and Greg Massey of Greenwood; sisters, Jane Magnusson of Minnesota and Anna Louise Jones (Jimmy) of Grenada; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
