Katherine Goss McCaleb

Katherine Goss McCaleb was born to Ben and Nola Goss in Avalon, Mississippi, on July 21, 1925. She was a sister to Lewis and Evelyn Goss. Katherine attended Valley Hill School. When Katherine met David Reed McCaleb Jr. at the picture show, they fell in love, and the two married on January 27, 1952. Katherine gave birth to four sons, Ben, Howard, Mark, and John McCaleb.

Katherine and her family called Green Acres home for many years, and the testimonies of the children she ministered to through her kitchen bear witness to her devotion to Jesus and His word. Jesus said, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.” (Mark 9:37) Katherine lived love.

Katherine first worked at Supreme Electronics then Baldwin Piano for 25 years She was a faithful member of Valley Hill Baptist Church for more than 25 years. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Nola Goss, her husband David Reed McCaleb Jr., sister Evelyn Goss, brother Lewis Goss, and four of her great-grandchildren Amber and Trea (born to Benny & Jill McCaleb), William Nathan (born to Max Montgomery & Hillary McCaleb), and Ryleigh (born to Bobby & Wendy Floyd).

Katherine is survived by her stepdaughter Vera Hoy and husband Gary of Mesquite, TX. Katherine is survived by her first-born son Ben R McCaleb Sr. and wife Dianne of McCarley; grandson Benny Reed McCaleb and wife Jill of Kosciusko and great-grandchildren John Parker and Dianna; granddaughter Angela Marie Cooper and husband Mike of Eupora and great-grandchildren Christian Carmichael and Cooper McDaniel; grandson Seth Garrison McCaleb and wife Hillery of Wetumpka, AL, and great-grandchildren Madison, Mason, Jack, and Reese; granddaughter Wendy Floyd and husband Bobby of Carrollton and great-grandchildren McCayla and Bayleigh. Katherine is survived by her second-born son Howard McCaleb of Greenwood; granddaughter Amanda Carnathan and husband Daniel of Durant and great-grandchildren Preston and Noah; granddaughter Hillary McCaleb and Max Montgomery of Carrollton and great-grandchildren Drake, Braylon, and Natalie. Katherine is survived by her third-born son Mark McCaleb and wife Tiffany of Coila; granddaughter April Kilpatrick and husband Scott of Oxford and great-grandchildren Anna, McCala & Wesley; grandson Allen McCaleb of Jackson; grandson Evan McCaleb and wife Courtney of Melbourne, FL; grandson Isaac McCaleb and wife Morgan of Greenwood and great-grandchildren Asher and Lilli. Katherine is survived by her fourth-born son John McCaleb and wife Lorie of Greenwood; granddaughter Emilee Taylor and husband Britt of Florence and great-grandchildren Brooklee, Ellie Britt, and Everly; granddaughter Memrie Rounsaville and husband Zach of Florence and great-grandchildren Knox, Jett, and Jaxx; grandson Brent McCaleb and wife Erica of Olympia, WA; grandson Cody McCaleb and fiancé Niki Daves of Greenwood.

Katherine’s greatest joy was found in being “Mamaw.” She delighted in taking care of her grands in her home until she returned to her Heavenly Father at the age of 94 on the night of January 31, 2020, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, surrounded by the loving presence of her family. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home, with visitation 12 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Carroll County. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
