John M. “Jimmy” Fancher III

John M. “Jimmy” Fancher III, 68, of Grenada, formerly of Greenwood, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at his residence. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis McKay officiated. 

He was born December 11, 1949 in Greenwood to John M. Fancher, Jr. and Jewel Chambers Fancher. He was a graduate of Leflore County High School and attended Holmes Community College. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He retired from the MS State Department of Corrections after 18 years. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Louise Fancher and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Marie Kent Fancher of Grenada; two sons, Ben Fancher and wife Haley of Mobile, Ala., and Timothy Skelton and wife Tabatha of Greenwood; three daughters, Sharon Dawn Fancher of Venus, Texas, Rebecca Jane Fletcher of Harrison, Ark., and Victoria Harper and husband Ray of Holcomb; brother, Robert “Bob” Fancher and wife Suzanne of Grenada; a niece, Lauren Fancher;  two nephews, John M. Fancher and Robert H. Fancher, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Michael Fancher, John Fancher, Robert Fancher, Jason Mims, Chris Harper, and Bobby Goss.

The Patriot Guard Riders of Mississippi performed the military rites.
