George Milton Slocum

George Milton Slocum, 86, of North Carrollton passed away at his residence in North Carrollton on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  Monday, April 29, at Oliver Funeral Home. A graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton immediately followed the visitation. Dr. Jeff Myers and Rev. Keith Ramage officiated the services.

He was born in Carroll County to George Washington and Sadie Bennett Slocum on December 8, 1932. He graduated from J.Z. George High School in North Carrollton in 1950 and attended Hinds Jr. College in Raymond for two years. He retired from Leflore County Schools on June 30, 1998. He served the town 
of North Carrollton as Alderman for 20 years and also served on the Election Commission for 4 years. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean conflict, and was a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Jackson and Mary Joyce Fisher; and brother, James Slocum.
Mr. Slocum is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dianne Smith Slocum of North Carrollton; his son, Steve Slocum of Carrollton; his sister, Rebecca Campbell of Vaiden; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lynn Haley, Pate Shackelford, Hal McClain, Frank "Chuck" Fisher,Terry Johnston, 
and Tom Hearn. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of North Carrollton Baptist Church, Dr. Michael Boler, Charles Holman, and Bobby Reagan.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Carrollton Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Oliver Funeral Home of Winona (www.ofhwinona.com) handled the arrangements.
