Bobby Gene Thompson

Bobby Gene Thompson, 83, of Greenwood died Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet will officiate the services. Interment will be in Hillview Stone Cemetery in Carroll County. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born February 23, 1935, in Kosciusko to Estelle and J. B. Thompson. He graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1953. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. He worked for the Holmes County Herald in Lexington, before moving to Greenwood.  He worked for many years at The Greenwood Commonwealth before retiring in 2004. He was an avid gardener and those close to him would call him “green thumb,” he enjoyed Mississippi State football, and was a great photographer. His personality with charm was an inspiration he left for many. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Thompson, sister, Mary Virginia Dean, and his parents.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gail Thompson of Greenwood; daughter, Beverly Stewart of Greenwood; son, Edward Thompson of Greenwood; sisters, Betty Nan Milburn of Brandon, Stella Dees of Kosciusko, and Joann Moore and husband John of Vaughn;  grandsons, Talvis Stewart III and wife Jessica of Morgan City and Robert Stewart and wife Brittany of Satillo; granddaughter, Laura Armstrong and husband Evin of Madison; great-grandchildren; Ansley Stewart, Talvis Stewart IV, Brayden Armstrong, Rhett Armstrong, Aiden Stewart, and many nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Adam Beauchamp, Bryan Beauchamp, Lavone Beauchamp, Jarod Hubbard, Clark Moore, and Adam Moore. A special thank you to his caregivers over the last several years and Dr. Ashley Pullen
