Betty Bennett Hazlewood, 82, of Winona passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2018 at Winona Manor.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, with Rev. John Kramer and Rev. Sam Riddell officiating.
She was born in Trenton, Tenn., on May 9, 1936, to Hugh Taylor Bennett Jr. and Vaneeta Alice Taylor Bennett. She was a 1954 graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton and a 1958 graduate of Ole Miss, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Also while at Ole Miss, she was a maid in the Dixie Week Court, vice president of the Panhellenic Council in 1956-57, a Navy Sponsor, vice president of the Home Economics Club, and a member of the University Singers. Mrs. Hazlewood was an educator for over 40 years, and was named Economic Development Educator of the Year in 1999 for outstanding contribution in education. She was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona, where she sang in the choir. She was also a life member of the Winona Junior Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Hazlewood is survived by her husband, James W. Hazlewood of Winona; daughter, Vanita Beth Adams (David) of Senatobia; son, Lee Bennett Hazlewood (Dee) of Eupora; brother, Hugh Taylor Bennett III (Patti) of Augusta, Ga.; and three granddaughters, Sarah Bunce Smith (Simon), Emily Bunce, and Mary Alice Hazlewood.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Hazlewood may be made to Winona Christian School, 1014 South Applegate, Winona, MS 38967; and may be marked for Kindergarten Building 5, Classroom Door Fund, or the Girls' Basketball Program.
