One man is recovering from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 Sunday night.
According to Sergeant Ronald Shive, Public Affairs Division of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop D, troopers responded to an accident call around 9:15 p.m. They responded to the scene located at mile marker 183, approximately one mile south of the Winona exit.
Shive said the International semi-truck pulling a gooseneck trailer lost control and exited the roadway into the median. The vehicle overturned.
According to Montgomery County Emergency Operations Director Allan Pratt, who also responded to the scene, when the vehicle overturned, it came to a rest on its side and began leaking diesel fuel.
The driver, Bryson Schmidt, 33, of Amory, was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center by ambulance where he was treated for moderate injuries, Shive said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Winona Fire Department, and MedStat all responded to the call.
Pratt said Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency were also notified of the accident.
