WINONA – Law enforcement has made an arrest in a string of burglaries which occurred over recent weeks.
Robdasious Merritt, 24, of Winona has been arrested and charged with nine counts of commercial burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, Merritt was arrested in connection with the burglaries at El Cabrito Mexican Restaurant (three counts), The Tracks, Napa Auto Parts, Winona Dry Cleaning, Winona Elementary School, Winona High School, and the district office of the Winona Montgomery Consolidated School District. The attempted burglary charge is in connection with the foiled break-in at Margarita’s Mexican restaurant, thanks to the burglar alarm, Herod said.
Money was stolen during each burglary.
“The burglaries occurred from the end of July until this week,” Herod said. “The arrest is the result of a lengthy and thorough investigation by the Winona Police Department.”
Herod said Merritt was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop. Winona City Judge Donald Bond set bond at $10,000 for each count, or $100,000 total.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for next Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m. in Winona City Court.
