Have you ever given thought to why you work or do what you do? Most of us do what we do simply because we enjoy doing it because it’s our passion. Paul tells us in Colossians 3:23-24 that whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism. Ultimately, whatever we do should please God. This is a strong statement from Paul. First, we learn that whatever we do, we should do it with all our heart because we are working for the Lord and not others. We may all have different motives for what we do but our main motive should be directed at glorifying our Father who is in heaven. We work hard to obtain earthly achievements such as degrees, jobs, nice homes, cars, status and such, all which are temporary. However, we serve a God who is rich in all things! He will give us an inheritance that is our reward, one that is beyond all measure. The psalmist reminds us in Psalms 37: 4b that God will give us the desires of our hearts, but we must commit our way to Him and trust in Him. He will make our righteous reward shine like the dawn, our vindication like the noonday sun (Psalm 37:5-6). Secondly, Paul reminds us that anyone who does wrong will get his or her just due for God does not show favoritism. In closing, I pray that we all work in such a way to please our Heavenly God. God is pleased when we use the gifts and talents He has given us to glorify Him. We must avoid sin and pride and arrogance as we utilize them. Remember to work diligently unto the Lord so that you may receive that righteous reward that He has promised.
