The Winona High School girls volleyball team suffered its first losses of the young season, going 1-2 in three matches played last week.
The Lady Tigers (4-2 overall) started the week last Monday with a 3-2 win at Kosciusko High School. The Lady Whippets won the first set 25-20, but Winona won the second set 25-18. Kosciusko won the third set 25-21, and Winona rallied from a 2-1 deficit by winning the fourth set 25-22 and the fifth set 15-13.
Winona played at Eupora High School last Tuesday, falling 3-1. The Lady Tigers started the match with a 25-20 win in the first set, but Eupora won the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-14.
The Lady Tigers hosted Ethel High School last Thursday and dropped a 3-0 decision. Ethel won the sets 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16.
Winona, which played at Noxapater Monday and visited Water Valley Tuesday, plays host to Grenada High School Thursday.
The Winona High Tournament is slated for Saturday. The Lady Tigers take on Senatobia at 9 a.m., and Senatobia plays Ethel at 10:15 a.m. Ethel faces Pillow Academy at 11:30 a.m., and Pillow plays Grenada at 12:45 p.m. Grenada takes on Noxapater at 2 p.m., and Noxapater tangles with Eupora at 3:15 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Winona plays Eupora.

The Lady Jaguars went 0-2 in matches played last week.
Last Tuesday, J.Z. George fell 3-1 to Amanda Elzy in North Carrollton. Elzy won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22, but the Lady Jags took the third set 25-19. Elzy finished off the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
The Lady Jaguars slipped to 0-4 on the season with a 3-1 loss at Ruleville Thursday. Ruleville won the first set 25-11, but the Lady Jags rallied for a 25-13 win in the second set. The Lady Tigers won the next two sets 25-17 and 25-18.
J.Z. George, which played at Leflore County Tuesday, entertains Ruleville Thursday and hosts Northside Monday.
