Winona Christian coach Ashley Kuhn finished out his second week of fall practice last week with an intrasquad scrimmage.
Kuhn said he thought the Stars had a good week.
“I thought we got a lot accomplished and the kids had a good attitude,” Kuhn said. “It was pretty brutal with the heat but I thought we got a lot done. We went in the morning and broke the practices up and gave them a break in the middle and fed them. I prefer to do it that way rather than send them back home. We have kids who come from distances from several counties so it’s tough to send them home.”
While Kuhn said it was good week of practice, there is still plenty to get done.
“I think we have got a long way to go,” Kuhn said. “I thought their attention was good and we got a good bit accomplished. I think the scrimmage gave us some good film to build off of. We are young in some spots and only have four seniors. We have a really big junior class and a lot of those kids played last year. But we are young in some spots and are counting on some ninth graders to help us.”
Kuhn said he still has some question marks but hopes to get those answered by the end of the season.
“We still have some question marks but I think this scrimmage will shake out a lot of this out,” Kuhn said. “I think our main goal is to come out healthy and see who will be where in week one. We don’t play a jamboree and will have a week off between after our first game. We had Benton in week zero and after Columbus Christian dropped down to eight-man, we moved Benton to later on in the years. We just couldn’t find a jamboree that fit our schedule.”
Kuhn said the Stars will spend a lot of time in the film room this week and then scrimmage on Friday at Pillow at 4 p.m.
“We are going to spend a good amount of time in the film room this week,” Kuhn said. “We had a scrimmage on Friday were able to film that. We are going to do some time on that film and do some correction and then get ready for our scrimmage on Friday with Pillow.”
“I’m anxious to see how we do,” Kuhn said. “One of the issues you run into with a school on our size is to get good 11 on 11. It will be good to get some more film. But it’s a very scripted scrimmage.”
