The Winona High School baseball team picked up two key Region 3-3A wins last week in improving to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in district play.
Th Tigers, who were slated to host Louisville High School in a non-district game Tuesday, have a region game at Humphreys County Friday and entertain J.Z. George Saturday.
Winona knocked off Amanda Elzy 15-0 last Friday as three pitchers combined on a one-hitter. Tommarion Brown (1-0) got the win as he went the first frame, walking one and fanning two. Wyatt Boone worked the second inning, allowing one hit, walking one and striking out two. Hammond Austin pitched a perfect third inning.
Winona plated four in the first, two in the second and nine in the third.
Kam’ron Robinson had three singles, scored two runs and drove in a run, and Austin had two RBIs, scored two runs and had a single. Danarius Robinson had a single, two RBIs and scored once, and Conner Helms had a double, scored one run and drove in a run.
Gavin Vance had a double, scored twice and had an RBI, and Brown had an RBI single. Chase Richardson had a single, RBI and scored one run, and Joe Reed Tompkins scored three runs. Jaylon Oliver scored a run and drove in one, and Miles Bailey had two RBIs.
Last Thursday, the Tigers broke open a close game with a 13-run third inning en route to a 17-2 win over Ruleville. Winona tacked on three runs in the first and one in the second. Ruleville scored one run each in the first and third innings.
The Tigers outhit Ruleville 12-2. Ruleville also made six errors in the field and issued six walks.
Helms (4-3) got the win as he went the first two innings, allowing one run (earned) on one hit, striking out five. Vance worked the third frame, giving up a run (earned) on one hit, walking one and fanning three.
Austin had a banner day at the plate as he drove in four runs with three singles. He also scored three runs. Helms had a single and double, driving in a run and scoring twice. Vance had two singles, one RBI and scored a run, and Chase Richardson had a single, two RBIs and scored a run.
Denarius Robinson and Kam’ron Robinson had a single and scored two runs each. D. Robinson also drove in one run. Boone had a single, two RBIs and scored twice, and Brown had a single and scored two runs.
