The Winona Christian Lady Stars continue to show improvement splitting two games in the last week on the basketball court.
Greg Watkins’ girls closed the Indianola Academy Pre-Season Tournament last Wednesday with a 34-25 win over Lee Academy. Tuesday, the Lady Stars hosted North Delta School and dropped a 30-19 decision.
With the action, WCS stands at 2-2 on the season.
“Against Lee Academy, we looked a whole lot better,” Watkins said. “We were more patient on offense and communicated on defense. I thought we played with a lot of energy.”
Senior Allie Leach paced the Lady Stars with a game-high 19 points. Junior Molly Lott had six points and senior Malaina Kuhn chipped in with four points. Sophomore Mary-Hayden Blaylock had three points, while junior Maggie Adams scored two points.
Against North Delta, the Lady Stars trailed 12-10 at intermission, but managed just two field goals the entire second half.
“I thought we played with more energy than we did the first game we played against North Delta,” Watkins concluded. “The girls just have to continue to get better every week.”
Lott led the scoring with six points followed by Adams with five points. Leach finished with four points. Sophomore Britten Coleman and Kuhn had two points apiece.
The Stars played Manchester Academy in Yazoo City Thursday. Results were not available as of press time.
