Winona Christian opened district play last week and dropped the best-of-three series to Canton Academy.
Canton took a 12-9 win in game one of the series before Winona Christian bounced back and took game two 6-2 on Thursday to even the series. The Panthers then run-ruled the Stars 14-4 on Friday to take the series win.
Winona Christian will return to play this week as they play at Starkville Academy on Thursday and host the Volunteers on Friday. The Stars will return from spring break and resume district play in a three-game series against Winston Academy.
Canton Academy 12, Winona Christian 9
The Stars started fast with five runs in the top of the first but couldn’t hold onto that lead as the Panthers rallied to take a three-run win over the Stars on Monday.
Winona led 6-3 after two innings before Canton scored four in the third and three in the fourth. Winona added two in the fourth and seventh while Canton finished with two in the sixth.
Winona had nine hits ini the contest. Led by Hunter Land who was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Austin Horne was 2-for-3 while Brannon Hill was also 2-for-4.
Cale Sproles started on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two. Will Irwin pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Winona Christian 6, Canton Academy 2
The Stars used a four-run sixth inning to take a district win over the Panthers on Thursday.
The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the second inning before the Stars plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Each team had four hits but Canton committed six errors and walked four. Will Irwin doubled and scored a run while Hunter Land and Karson McCaleb each singled and scored.
Austin Horne started on the mound and pitched all seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out eight.
Canton Academy 14, Winona Christian 4
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and took a six-inning, run-rule win on Friday to take the series.
Canton scored seven runs in the first and added five in the third while Winona scored one in the second and three in the third.
Canton outhit Winona 13-5 in the contest. Brannon Hill was 2-for-4 while Karson McCaleb was 2-for-3. Parker Watkins also singled and drove in two runs.
Zack Bledsoe started and pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up seven runs on seven hits with just one earned. Will Irwin pitched two innings and gave up six runs on four hits and two walks while Cale Sproles pitched 1 1/3 innings. Hill finished with one inning.
