How many do you have?
They come in pairs.
Yep, SHOES!
As I get older my styles of shoes have dwindled down to the ones that fit my high-mileage feet, that are comfortable, and that prevent me having more problems, like falling. I tend to think I’ll get a good pair of shoes, tho expensive, and they will last a long time.
My good friend recently went to her foot doctor because she had been to a water park with her grandchildren and spent the day walking on the concrete in her water shoes—-not her expensive supportive shoes with the special made inserts for her foot health. Pain was the result.
Her doctor told her that had tendinitis from the pool day and prescribed for her. He asked her what kind of shoes she regularly wore. She responded with a well-known brand for older folks needing protection and support.
“How old are they—-how long have you been wearing them?” He asked her, and she replied about seven or eight months.
“Do you wear them every day?”
“Except on Sunday, and I have a black pair for winter.”
“You need a new pair, because even tho these aren’t that old, the support features and the padding is deteriorating and not able to do it’s job. It breaks down.”
Worn out shoes! The Bible says in Deuteronomy 25:5-6 that the Israelites wandered in the wilderness 40 years, but . . .”the sandals on your feet didn’t wear out”…”proving to you that I am in fact GOD, your God.” Shoes can represent a physical need and protection.
When Moses saw the burning bush of God, he was told to remove his shoes because the place was holy. Exodus 3:5. By their nature, shoes get dirty like people are dirty spiritually with sin and are unfit to approach holiness.
But the shoes I love in the Bible are the ones Paul compares to a Roman soldiers’ shoes that make him ready for battle. Ephesians 6:14-15 tells us to “stand firm, then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, and with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”
We are to make plans and get ready to share the Gospel which brings peace with us and God through the forgiveness of our sin when we accept and put our faith in Jesus, God’s only Son, who died on the cross to pay the penalty for sin. As we are in peace with God, we are able to be at peace with our brothers and sisters.
So let’s get our spiritual war shoes on and spread the Good News of Christ and Salvation!
The Gospel doesn’t wear out either!
