STEWART – Two people are facing the action of a Montgomery County Grand Jury for drug charges.
James Chapman, 40, of Winona and Kristy Leeann Miller, 37, of Haskell, Okla., were bound over to the action of the grand jury by Montgomery County Justice Court Judge Larry Bamberg in Tuesday’s session of justice court. Both are facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Bamberg reduced Miller’s bond on Tuesday to $5,000 per charge, and she bonded out following the the court session. Chapman is also out on bond.
According to Sheriff Bubba Nix, around 9 p.m. on July 15, Deputy Jim Burton and Deputy Kelvin Lee were working a driver checkpoint with the Webster County Sheriff’s Department near the county line.
Nix said Chapman came through the checkpoint in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck, and was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Miller was a passenger in the vehicle and is facing the same charges.
Public defender Lee Bailey was appointed as defense counsel for both defendants.
