Winona High School and French Camp Academy met twice on the baseball diamond last week, splitting the two games.
The Tigers claimed a 10-9 win last Tuesday as they scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to overcome a 7-5 deficit. French Camp tallied a run each in the first, third and fifth innings, four in the fourth and two in the seventh. Winona plated one run each in the first, fourth and sixth frames, three in the third and four in the fifth.
Miles Bailey led the way at the plate with two singles and a double, driving in two runs and scoring once. Hammond Austin had a single and scored four times, and Alston Crouch had a single, scored twice and drove in a run. Jaylon Oliver had a triple, and Kentrell Crawford had an RBI single.
Wyatt Boone started on the mound for Winona, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits, walking five and fanning five. Gavin Vance relieved Boone in the fifth, recording the last two outs. He allowed one run on one hit, walking three. Vance (2-0) got the win as he was the pitcher of record when the Tigers took the lead in the home half of the fifth.
Austin pitched one inning, giving up two runs on one hit, walking four and fanning one. Tomarion Brown worked one inning, walking one and striking out two.
The two teams collided again last Friday with the Panthers taking a 13-3 win in five innings. French Camp scored five runs in the first, six in the third and one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Winona tallied three runs in the first frame.
Bailey and Oliver had a single each for the Tigers (3-2). Crawford and Brown scored one run apiece, and Wyatt Boone had an RBI.
Bailey (0-1) took the loss as he only recorded two outs, giving up five runs on two hits, walking three and striking out one. Brown went 1 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on two hits, walking two and fanning three. Vance worked two innings, giving up three runs on two hits, walking one and fanning three.
Winona, which played at Noxapater Monday and hosted Amanda Elzy Wednesday, visits Humphreys County Friday and entertains Senatobia Saturday.
