Winona High School’s baseball team rebounded from a 14-2 loss to Kirk Academy last Friday night to earn two wins Saturday at the Winona Dixie Roofing Tournament.
The Tigers (2-1) beat J.Z. George 17-2 in their first game Saturday and knocked off Independence 13-9 in their second contest.
Joe Reed Tompkins (1-0) got the win as he allowed both runs (earned) on one hit, walking seven and fanning five. He also had a single, RBI and scored a run at the plate.
Darion Crawford had a single and double, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Kentrell Crawford had two singles, scored three runs and drove in a run, and Alejandro White had two singles, two RBIs and scored twice. Miles Bailey had two singles, one RBI and scored a run, and Alston Crouch had a double and scored once.
Gavin Vance had a single and scored three runs, and Hammond Austin had a single, two RBIs and scored a run.
Winona completed its game from last Tuesday on Saturday against Independence in picking up its second win of the tournament. Bailey had three doubles, one RBI and scored three runs, and Wyatt Boone had a single and double and four RBIs. Tomarion Brown had a single and double, two RBIs and scored twice.
Jordan Richardson had three single, scored three runs and stole three bases. Crouch had two singles and one RBI, and Austin had a single, scored two runs and drove in two. Vance had a single, scored once and an RBI. Vance (1-0) got the win on the mound.
Against Kirk, the Raiders scored three runs each in the first and sixth innings, four in the second, and two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Winona scored both of its runs in the second.
Boone (0-1) took the loss as he gave up seven runs (all earned) in 1 2/3 innings on the mound. He allowed seven hits, walking five and fanning one. Bailey went 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on five hits, walking five and striking out three. Austin recorded the last two outs in the sixth.
Bailey had a single, two doubles and scored a run, and Kentrell Crawford had two singles. Austin, Boone and Richardson had a single each.
Winona, which was slated to play host to French Camp Tuesday, will visit French Camp Saturday. The Tigers visit Noxapater Monday.
