Three men were bound over to await the action of the Montgomery County Grand Jury in connection with the Aug. 20 Powell Street shootings.
Hardarrius Meeks, represented by Payne Horan; Tyler Salley, represented by Reid Stanford; and Cameron Wiggins, represented by Morgan Jackson-Thompson, all waived their right to a preliminary hearing.
Meeks and Wiggins have been charged with murder and aggravated assault, and Salley has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault and felony fleeing in connection with multiple shootings on Powell Street that resulted in the death of Todd Sawyer.
Meeks, Jonverna McCuiston and an unnamed 17-year-old were wounded in the shooting. McCuiston was bound over on Aug. 11, and she faces charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On Aug. 10, officers responded to a call of an unconscious man on Powell Street behind J.J. Knox gymnasium. Officers began life-saving measures when they arrived on scene. The man, later identified as Sawyer, was taken to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital where he died.
After the melee, Salley took officers on a high-speed chase down Mississippi Highway 407 where it ended near Jefcoat Road when Salley wrecked the vehicle in which he was traveling, while other officers responded to a call at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital.
Salley and Wiggins were remanded to the custody of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Meeks and McCuiston are out on bond.
