As expected, the 2018 All-Crossroad Football Team was dominated by the Winona High School Tigers, who landed a dozen of the 24 members on the first-team.
While Winona had 12 athletes named, Carroll Academy had six, Winona Christian School five and J.Z. George one.
The players were nominated by their coaches, while all selections were made by Winona Times/Carroll Conservative sports director Austin Bishop, with the help of staff writers Laurence Hilliard, Robbie Robertson, and Calvin Stevens. Thirty-nine athletes were honored, as the 15 players who did not make the first team but were nominated by their coaches for consideration, were named as honorable mentions.
The offense was made up of 11 players: one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, and five offensive lineman. The defense was also made up of 11 players: four defensive linemen, three linebackers, and four defensive backs. Two other players made the team as athletes, due to their versatility and overall value to the team.
Here is a position-by-position breakdown of the 2018 All-Crossroads Football Team:
• QB, AN'DARIUS COFFEY, Winona: The 6-foot, 181-pound junior rushed for 1,455 yards and 19 touchdowns and passed for 1,401 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named MSHAA Class 5-SA Co-Best All-Purpose player.
• RB, CORLEY GOSS, Winona Christian: Goss, a 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, rushed for 1,138 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He also played in the MAIS All-Star Game.
• RB, JEB BECK, Carroll Academy: Beck, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior, played well on both sides of the ball during 2018. He was named as an MAIS All-Star, selected to the All-State team and the All-Conference team. He rushed for 934 yards and scored seven touchdowns on offense, while recording 40 tackles and picking off one pass.
• WR, JAY LOFTON, Winona: The versatile senior was a standout as a running back, wide receiver, and kick returner. The 5-foot-4, 140-pound senior Rushed for 978 yards and 16 touchdowns on 111 carries and also caught 36 passes for 597 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned five kickoffs for 182 yards and 13 punts for 109. He was named 503A Offensive MVP and was and MHSAA Class 3A second team all-state selection.
• WR, AHMAD ROBINSON, Winona: The senior wide receiver, running back, kick returner caught 21 passes for 295 yards and three scores. He also carried the ball 18 times for 90 yards and one touchdown. He also had nine kickoff returns for 216 yards. The 5-foot-9, 150-pounder was named to Region 5-3A second team.
• TE, CHRIS RIAS, J.Z. George: The senior provided a lot of leadership for the Jaguars this season. He was one of the top athletes on the team.
• OL JAKOB WELCH, Winona: The 6-foot-2, 265-pound senior was named the Best Offensive Lineman in Region 5-3A.
• OL, LADERRIOUS DAVIS, Winona: The senior was named first team Class 3-A All-State, as well as being named to the Region 5-3A first team.
• OL, JARIUS WEEK, Winona: The 5-foot-11, 250-pound senior was one of three Tigers named to the All-Crossroads Team offensive line. He was also named to the Region 5-3A first team.
• OL, LOGAN HODGES, Carroll Academy: The 6-foot-4, 265-pound senior was a three-year starter for the Rebels, and was an all-conference player and played in the MAIS All-Star Game.
• OL, JAKE SUTTON, Winona Christian: The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior playing in the MAIS All-Star Game.
• ATH, BLAKE COOPER, Winona: The sophomore showed play-making ability for the Tigers. He carried the ball 112 times for 909 yards while scored seven touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 79 yards and was named the Region 5-3A First Team.
• ATH, MORGAN MIMS, Carroll Academy: The junior played quarterback on offense, while also playing rover on defense, recording 50 tackles. She was named all-conference and MAIS All-State.
• DL, COOPER BECK, Carroll Academy: The 6-foot-3, 260-pound sophomore was named to the 2018 MAIS All-State team, as well as all-conference, recorded 45 tackles, including five for loss. He also had three sacks and two forced fumbles.
• DL, SAVEON GROSS, Winona: The junior defensive lineman recorded 15 tackles and two for a loss and was named Region 5-3A Defensive Lineman of the Year.
• DL, DETERRIOUS WILLIAMS, Winona: The 6-foot-2, 250-pound senior was named to the Region 5-3A first team. He recorded 60 tackles, including 11 for losses and two sacked, while picking off a pass and recovering a fumble.
• DL, HOLLAND INGRAM, Winona Christian: The 5-foot-10, 220-pound senior recorded 101 tackles, earning a spot in the MAIS All-Star Game.
• LB, COLBY MARLOW, Winona Christian: The 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior played in the MAIS All-Star game, while picking up 132 tackles.
• LB, REESE FULTON, Carroll Academy: The all-conference, All-State performer, picked up 55 tackles two forced fumbles and two sacked. On offense, the junior had 10 catches for 113 yards and three touchdowns.
• LB, JALEN CAMPBELL, Winona: The 6-foot, 200-pound senior, notched 114 tackles, including an amazing 24 for losses. He also had 30 carries for 256 yards and eight touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball. He was named the Region 5-3A Overall MVP and also selected as second-team Class 3A All-State.
• DB, DAVANDRE BAYS, Winona: The 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior, played in the North-South All-Star Game and was named Best Defensive Back in Region 5-3A. He picked off eight passes for the Tigers while recording 34 tackles.
• DB, GARRETT ABLES, Winona: The 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior recorded 58 tackles and had two interceptions, while being named to the 5-3A first team and the 3A All-State second team.
• DB, BLAKE MARLOW, Winona Christian: The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior played in the MAIS All-Star game and recorded 91 tackles in the regular season.
• DB, GAVIN WILTSHIRE, Carroll Academy: The 5-foot-8, 158-pound senior defensive back, picked off six passes and recorded 35 tackles. On offense he caught 11 passes for 310 yard and four touchdowns.
