The Winona Christian Lady Stars got the fast-pitch softball season under way last week as they won just one of four games.
The Lady Stars took a 12-1 win over rival Carroll Academy for their lone win last week but dropped decisions to Central Holmes, Heritage Academy and Indianola Academy.
Winona Christian returns to action this week as the Lady Stars are scheduled to host Pillow Academy on Tuesday and Canton on Friday. Both games are set for 6 p.m. On Saturday, Winona will play at the Indianola Tournament.
Central Holmes 4, Winona Christian 1
The Lady Trojans limited the Lady Stars to just two hits and took a three-run win over the Lady Stars on Saturday.
Central Holmes scored one run in the first and second innings and four in the fourth. Winona scored one run in the fifth inning.
Central Holmes outhit Winona 6-2 in the game. Harlee Whitten tripled and scored while Sara Rawles also singled for Winona’s hits.
Winona Christian 12, Carroll 1
The Lady Stars took advantage of four walks and seven errors to take a run-rule win over Carroll on Saturday.
Winona scored two in the first and fourth, three in the third and five in the fifth.
Winona outhit Carroll 5-2 in the contest. Hope Pierce singled and had two walks, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Haley Beckwith doubled and had two RBIs. Mckinley Ingram and Madyson Leach each had two RBIs while Haylah Brooke Varnes and Caylon Marlow each scored two runs apiece. Ashleigh Parkinson also had three stolen bases.
Sara Rawles got the start and pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out four. Hope Pierce pitched one inning and struck out two.
Heritage Academy 10, Winona Christian 2
The Lady Patriots scored eight runs in the third inning to break open a close game.
Heritage scored two in the first and eight in the third. Winona scored one in the second and third.
Heritage outhit Winona 10-5 in the game. Mckinley Ingram singled and drove in a run while Ashleigh Parkinson and Kaylah Brooke Varnes each singled and scored. Haley Beckwith and Hope Pierce also singled.
Allie Rawles pitched 2 1/3 innings while Hope Pierce finished out for the Lady Stars.
Indianola Academy 5, Winona Christian 3
The Lady Stars jumped out quick but gave up four runs in the second inning and dropped a two-run decision to open the season.
Winona scored three in the top of the first before Indianola answered with four in the second and one in the third.
Winona had six hits in the contest as Hope Pierce went 2-for-2 and scored a run. Haley Beckwith had a triple and scored two runs while Ashleigh Parkinson singled and drove in a run. Kaylah Brooke Varnes singled and scored a run while Madyson Leach also singled.
Sara Rawles pitched 2 1/3 innings for the Lady Stars, giving up five runs on five hits while striking out three.
