Winona Christian’s season came to an end last week with a pair of losses in the Class AAA state tournament.
Winona lost 14-4 to Riverfield in the opener and then lost 13-2 to Marshall in the elimination game.
Winona Christian finishes the season with a 17-21 record.
Riverfield 14, Winona Christian 4
The Lady Stars weren’t able to hold onto an early as Riverfield took a five-inning, run-rule win on Saturday in the Class AAA State tournament.
Winona scored all four of its runs in the first inning as Riverfield answered with one in the first, three in the second, eight in the third and one in the fourth and fifth innings.
Riverfield outhit Winona 13-4. Winona got a triple and two RBIs from Sara Rawles while McKinley Ingram and Kaylah Brooke Varnes each singled and drove in runs. Haley Beckwith singled and scored a run.
Marshall 13, Winona Christian 2
The Lady Stars season came to and end in a run-rule loss to Marshall in the losers’ bracket on Saturday night.
Winona led 1-0 after three innings before Marshall scored six in the fourth and finished with seven in the sixth inning. Winona added another run in the sixth inning.
Winona had five hits in the game, led by Hope Pierce was was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Ashleigh Parkinson doubled and scored a run while Sara Rawles doubled and drove in a run. Haley Beckwith had Winona’s other hit.
