The Lady Jaguars of J.Z. George High School staged a second-half rally in defeating Coffeeville High School 45-40 last Friday night in North Carrollton.
Coffeeville held a slim 7-6 lead after one and stretched it to 27-15 by halftime. The Lady Jags began their comeback in the third period with a 20-6 run to take a 35-33 lead headed to the fourth period.
"The defensive intensity played a part in the second half and us playing our game, opposed to the first half where we played their game and pace," said J.Z. George head coach LeQuell Allen.
Jasmine Newman had 11 points, and Jakyla Winters and Allyson Anderson tacked on nine each for the 4-12 Lady Jaguars.
Tyeshia Grant and Tyla Branch finished with six each.
In the boys game, Coffeeville won 66-63 as it pulled away in the fourth with a 19-17 run after only leading 47-46 after the third frame.
Coffeeville led 20-14 after the first quarter and 37-28 at the half.
Malik Branch and Jordun Normal tallied 17 points apiece, and Alex Chriss had
13 points for the Jags, who fell to 6-10 with the loss.
J.Z. George's home game against Kosciusko set for last Saturday was called off because of severe weather.
The Lady Jaguars and Jaguars begin Region 2-2A play Friday as they go to Eupora High School. J.Z. George will entertain region foe Calhoun City on Jan. 21.
