It was a rough week for the Carroll Academy Rebels as they dropped three games.
The Rebels dropped two district games last week, falling 5-2 to Central Holmes on Tuesday and 16-6 on Thursday. The Rebels finished the week with a 10-0 loss to Benton.
Carroll is off for spring break and will return to action on Tuesday, March 20 at Calhoun Academy at 6 p.m. Then on Friday, March 23, the Rebels will host Benton in a 6 p.m. contest.
Central Holmes 16, Carroll 6
Central Holmes jumped out to a 9-1 lead and finished strong as they took a run-rule win over Carroll on Thursday to complete the two-game sweep of the Rebels Central Holmes scored six runs in the first inning and three in the second to go up 9-1. Carroll scored three in the third and two in the fifth to pull within 9-6. But Central Holmes scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Central Holmes had seven hits on the day as Andrew Montgomery and Noah Collier each had two singles apiece. Gavin The J.Z. George softball team fell to 0-2 with an 18-0 loss to Charleston. Jessica Liddell, Olivia Carpenter, Tyeshia Grant and Destiny Clardy had hits for J.Z. George.
“Our pitching improved this game, but we struggled to hit the ball,” said coach Jamie Tucker.
Another problem was that Charleston had 23 stolen bases.
Following Spring Break, the season will resume March 20 with a home doubleheader against Choctaw County.
Wiltshire had a double while Dane Greenlee and Logan Neal each had singles.
Central Holmes 5, Carroll 2
Central Holmes limited Carroll to just three hits as the Trojans took game 1 of the series on Tuesday.
Central Holmes scored three in the top of the third and added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
Carroll scored its two runs in the third inning. Crawford Holly singled and Hunter Robertson reached on a bunt single. After Colby Holly was hit by a pitch, Bubba Porter grounded out to score Holly. Jacob Cutts then drove in Robertson on an infield single.
Cutts was tagged with the loss as he pitched seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and one hit batter while striking out four.
Benton 10, Carroll 0
The Rebels had just two hits and committed four errors in a five-inning, run-rule loss to Benton on Friday.
Benton scored one in the first and fifth while plating four in the third and fourth innings.
Lofton Holly was the pitcher of record for the Rebels.
