It was a rough week for the Carroll Academy softball team.
After a 17-0 loss to Indianola, the Lady Rebels lost 13-4 to Central Holmes on Tuesday.
“That game against Central Holmes was a lot closer than it looked,” Carroll coach Zach Whitfield said. “It was 7-4 going into the seventh.”
Carroll was set to return to action on Monday as they traveled to Washington. On Tuesday, they host Winona Christian on Saturday will go to the Bayou Tournament in Cleveland.
Central Holmes 13, Carroll 4
The Lady Trojans broke open a close contest with six runs in the second to take a nine-run win over the Lady Rebels in district play.
The game was tied 1-1 after two innings before Central Holmes scored three in the third and one in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Central Holmes added two in the top of the sixth before Carroll answered with three in the bottom of the frame to make the score 7-4. The Lady Trojans broke the game open with six runs in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
Central Holmes outhit Carroll 16-4 in the contest.
Bella Carter doubled and scored two runs for Carroll while Mary Jordan Milton singled and drove in a run. Presley Woods singled and scored while Sara Austin Welch also singled.
Indianola 17, Carroll 0
The Lady Colonels outhit the Lady Rebels 18-2 to take a three-inning victory on Monday.
Indianola scored five in the first and third innings and added seven in the second inning. Presley Woods and Mary Braxton Cobb each singled and stole a base for Carroll in the loss.
