The Carroll Academy Lady Rebels got their season started this week with four contests.
The Lady Rebels didn’t manage to grab a win but new head coach Zach Whitfield said his team competed well to open the season and that he was pleased with the effort.
Carroll opened up with an 11-8 loss to Humphrey on Friday and then lost 5-3 to Central Holmes and 4-2 to Indianola before falling 12-1 to Winona Christian to finish out the weekend.
Carroll was set to return to action with a full slate of games this week. They traveled to Benton on Monday where they lost the contest 12-4. The Lady Rebels will host Greenville Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m. and will finish the week on Friday by hosting Washington School.
Winona Christian 12, Carroll 1
The Lady Stars took advantage of four walks and seven errors to take a run-rule win over Carroll on Saturday.
Winona scored two in the first and fourth, three in the third and five in the fifth.
Carroll had just three hits as Helen Claire Cobb doubled and scored a run. Bella Carter drove in Carroll’s only run with a single while Mary Jordan Milton also had a double.
Peyton Perry pitched all five innings for Carroll.
Indianola 4, Carroll 2
The Lady Rebels outhit another opponent but dropped a two-run decision in a time-limit game on Saturday.
Each team scored one run in the first inning while Indianola had two in the top of the third and one in the fourth. Carroll scored its other run in the third.
Carroll outhit Indianola 3-2 in the game. Helen Claire Cobb was 2-for-2 and scored run while Presley Woods singled and scored run.
Peyton Perry pitched all four innings and gave up four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Central Holmes 5, Carroll 3
In a time-limit contest, Central Holmes scored in both innings and held off the Lady Rebels to take a two-run win on Saturday at the Winona Tournament.
Central Holmes scored three in the first and two in the second. Carroll scored two in the first and one in the second.
Carroll outhit Central Holmes 5-4 in the contest. Meri Brynn Reeves doubled and scored a run while Sara Austin Welch also doubled. Mary Jordan Milton singled and drove in a run while Kaitlyn Chamblee and Presley Woods also singled. Woods also had an RBI.
Peyton Perry pitched two innings for Carroll and gave up five runs on four hit and three walks while striking out one.
Humphrey Academy 11, Carroll 8
The Lady Rebels overcame a slow start but fell short of the win in the season opener on Friday.
Humphrey scored 10 runs in the first inning added one in the second. Carroll answered with two in the second and three in the third and fourth innings.
Humphrey outhit Carroll 12-4 in the game. Bella Carter led Carroll at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored, four stolen bases and two RBIs. Helen Claire Cobb singled and scored two runs while Mary Jordan Milton singled and drove in two runs. Meri Brynn Reeves also walked and scored twice.
Peyton Perry overcame the rough start and pitched all three innings for Carroll and struck out four and walked three.
