NORTH CARROLLTON – The J.Z. George Lady Jaguars just wrapped a summer of practice in preparation of the upcoming 2018 fast-pitch season.
During their first season, after being without a fast-pitch softball team for a number of years, the Lady Jaguars played teams from various schools, regardless of class.
However, the 3A Lady Jaguars will face Choctaw County, Charleston, Ruleville Central and Amanda Elzy in their district this season, according to Lady Jaguar Coach Jamie Tucker.
“My girls are doing great. There is a family feel to the team this year. They have been working hard on the field, and they have fun doing it,” said Tucker. “One of the best things I have seen is the girls from last year are helping new team members on their skills without me asking. That shows me they care about the team’s success.”
Expected to start for the Lady Jaguars during the upcoming season are sophomore Laney Clunan at pitcher, freshman Olivia Carpenter at catcher, senior Jessica Liddell at second base, sophomore Jasmine Newnan at short stop, sophomore Tyeshia Grant at centerfield, sophomore Makayla Vest at left field and eighth grader Makalee Bell at right field, according to Tucker.
“I am still working on my first and third base positions. However, I have a couple of great potential players to fill those positions,” said Tucker. “I have only one senior this year, three juniors, six sophomores and one freshman.”
