The J.Z. George High School archery team continued its hot shooting with a victory against Pillow Academy and Nanih Waiya on March 1 in North Carrollton at the J.Z. George gymnasium.
The Jaguars had a team total of 2,844 points to outdistance second-place Pillow, which shot a 2,517. Nanih Waiya had a 2,370 point total.
Senior Shamar Griffin led the way for J.Z. George with a 276. Fellow senior Wil’Tavious Williams was just a point behind at 275, and senior Jacob Johnson shot a 264. Sophomore Colten Brashear was fourth with a 248 total, and senior Austyn Chenault shot a 242. Senior Ian Mills rounded out the first six shooters with a 235.
Senior Makayla Miller came in seventh with a 233, and eighth grader Brayden Counts was next with a 227. Sophomore Elijah Fleming had a 225, and junior Mackenzie Mims shot a 215. Junior Rana Al-Rabahi had a 213 total, and junior Mariah Burns shot a 191.
For Pillow Academy, Emma Hodges led the Mustangs with a 269 total. J.T. Mattox had a 240, and Luke Hyde was next with a 237. Hartley Kittle shot a 235, and Graham Howard shot a 221. Braden Goss shot a 198, and Khyra Ware and Sarah Riley Harden both had a 194. Samuel Pittman shot a 185, and Story Jacobson had a 183. Gage Thomas was next with a 183, and Owen Hodges shot a 178.
J.Z. George hosted a competition against Winona High School Monday, and the newly-formed elementary team, which consists of 15 students from Marshall Elementary School in grades 4-6, had a shoot against the Grenada Elementary School team Tuesday.
The high school team is slated to shoot again on March 25 against Neshoba Central at J.Z. George. The North half tournament will be held March 29-31 in North Carrollton against Grenada Elementary, Winona, Pillow, North New Summit School and Nanih Waiya.
