The J.Z. George baseball team finally got to open its 2020 season under first-year coach Tristan Ellingburg as it dropped a 12-0 decision to Charleston High School on March 7 in North Carrollton.
The visiting Tigers plated five runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third.
Charleston held J.Z. George hitless as the Jaguars' defense made numerous errors in the field.
"We are more than capable of competing and winning. We just have to stay positive and have faith in ourselves and each other," said Ellingburg.
J.Z. George's Michael Bankston was a bright spot for the Jags on the mound as he recorded 10 strike outs in four innings of work.
"Michael had really good stuff, but we didn't give him much help in the field," said the first-year coach.
J.Z. George is slated to return March 16 at Charleston at 4 p.m. and go to Noxapater on March 19 at 4 p.m.
