The Carroll Academy boys had a pair of exciting contests this past week as they split a pair of district thrillers.
The Rebels took a big 62-58 win over Central Holmes on Tuesday and then dropped a 52-50 decision on the road at Indianola on Friday.
The Lady Rebels also split a pair of games last week as they fell to district leader Central Holmes 55-38 on Tuesday before taking a 33-28 win over Indianola on Friday.
Carroll will return to action this week as they are scheduled to travel to Oak Hill on Tuesday and host Indianola on Friday night.
Carroll boys 62, Central Holmes 58
In a back-and-forth contest, the Rebels were able pull away late to take a four-point win over the Trojans.
The game was tight for the entire contest as Carroll led 14-9 at the end of the first. Central Holmes outscored Carroll 17-12 in the second to tie the game at 26-all at the half. Carroll outscored Central Holmes 18-17 in the third to take a 44-43 lead into the fourth. The Rebels held a two-point lead late in the fourth and a pair of free throws by Brennan Blaylock with four seconds left in the game secured the win for Carroll.
Noah Beck led Carroll with 25 points and six rebounds while Mathis Beck had 14 points and six rebounds. Hunter Grantham had a huge game on the inside with 13 points and 19 rebounds while Blaylock finished with six points.
Central Holmes girls 55, Carroll 38
The Lady Trojans gradually pulled away and took a 17-point win over the Lady Rebels last week.
Each team scored 14 points in the first period while Central Holmes outscored the Lady Rebels 12-7 in the second period to lead 26-21 at the half. The Lady Trojans continued to pull away in the second half as they outscored the Lady Rebels 15-8 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth.
Dru Chamblee led Carroll with 17 points while Mary Laken Boutwell had eight points and Meri Brynn Reeves added seven points.
Indianola boys 52, Carroll 50
The Rebels trailed from the outset and suffered a two-point loss to the Colonels in district play last week.
Indianola outscored Carroll 16-13 in the first period and 11-10 in the second to lead 27-23 at the half. Indianola outscored Carroll 13-12 in the third and took a 40-35 lead into the fourth. The Rebels outscored the Colonels 15-12 in the fourth but couldn’t complete the comeback as they dropped the two-point decision.
Noah Beck led Carroll with 18 points while Hunter Grantham had another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brennan Blaylock and Bryce Collier each had seven points apiece.
Carroll girls 33, Indianola 28
The Lady Rebels pulled away late and took a five-point win over the Lady Colonels last week.
Carroll led 9-6 at the end of the first period but Indianola outscored the Lady Rebels 11-6 in the second to lead 17-15 at the half. Each team scored four points in the third period before the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Colonels 14-7 in the fourth for the final margin.
Bella Carter led the Lady Rebels with nine points while Dru Chamblee had six points and Georgia Neill chipped in five points.
