The Carroll Academy Rebels knocked off the rust from Christmas by taking a pair of double-digit wins in the Columbus Christian Christmas Tournament played at the Mississippi University for Women.
The Rebels beat Victory Christian 56-34 on Friday and then dispatched host Columbus Christian 61-37 on Saturday.
The Lady Rebels lost their Friday contest to West Lowndes 58-40 but bounced back to beat Pickens Academy 38-33 on Saturday.
Carroll will return to action on Friday as they travel to Winona for a big district matchup.
CA boys 56, Victory Christian 34
The Rebels got a pair of double-doubles as they took a 22-point win over Victory Christian on Friday at MUW.
Victory Christian led for most of the first half as they outscored Carroll 19-17 in the first quarter and led 25-23 at the half. But the Rebels responded in the second half as they outscored Victory Christian 19-9 in the third and 12-0 in the fourth for the final margin of victory.
Austin Smith had a big game as he pumped in 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and was named MVP of the game by tournament officials. Reese Fulton had another double-double as he scored 16 points and had 18 rebounds. Logan Taylor also chipped in eight points.
West Lowndes girls 58, CA 40
The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Rebels in every period as they took an 18-point win over the Lady Rebels on Friday.
West Lowndes led 10-6 at the end of the first and 24-17 at the half. West Lowndes continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Carroll 18-10 in the third and 16-13 in the fourth.
Gracie Turner led Carroll with 13 points while Dru Chamblee had nine points and Kaitlyn Chamblee added seven points.
CA boys 61, Columbus Christian 37
The Rebels got another pair of double-doubles as they pulled away to beat the Rams by 24 on Saturday.
The Rebels started quick as they led 22-15 at the half and 33-22 at the half. The Rebels pulled away in the third as they outscored the Rams 16-5 in the third to lead 49-27 going into the fourth.
Reese Fulton had another double as he scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and was named MVP of the game while Logan Taylor had 16 points and 12 assists. Austin Smith also chipped in 10 points.
CA girls 38, Pickens (Ala.) Academy 33
The Lady Rebels used a big third quarter and took a five-point win over Pickens on Saturday.
Carroll led 7-4 at the end of the first but trailed 13-12 at the half. The Lady Rebels pulled away in the third, outscoring Pickens 15-7 to take a 27-20 lead into the fourth.
Lainey Claire Dunn led Carroll with 11 points and nine rebounds and was named the MVP of the game. Mary Lakyn Boutwell had eight points and three steals while Gracie Turner had seven points and six rebounds.
