Carroll Academy’s rigorous schedule produced a pair of sweeps this past week as North Delta and Pillow both claimed a pair of wins over the Rebels.
The Carroll Academy boys lost 57-38 to Pillow and 58-53 to North Delta. The Lady Rebels lost 69-45 to Pillow and 58-53 to North Delta.
“Right now, we are playing up in our schedule competition-wise,” CA boys coach Tommy Acy said. “We have got to get ready for district, which is coming up really quick. As far as the team is concerned, we have played several good halves of basketball. But there is something about the third quarter, that’s our biggest enemy so far. We will go into halftime tied or down by just a point or two and then get outscored by 15 points in the third quarter. We’ve got to try something different there. If we can put together two good halves, I think we will be okay.”
The Rebels have a busy week as they are set to host Bayou on Monday and Tri-County on Tuesday before traveling to Pillow on Thursday.
Rebels
Class AAAA Pillow steadily outscored the Rebels as they took a 19-point win last week.
Pillow led 14-11 at the end of the first period and 22-18 at the half. The Mustangs continued to pull away in the third period as they outscored the Rebels 15-9 in the third to take a 37-27 lead into the fourth.
Reese Fulton led the Rebels with 20 points and six rebounds while Logan Taylor had 15 points and four rebounds.
The Rebels got another big game from Fulton but it wasn’t enough as North Delta pulled away for a 14-point win over the Rebels.
Fulton had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Michael O’Brien added 10 points. Logan Neal added six points for the Rebels in the loss.
Lady Rebels
Pillow used a big fourth period to pull away and beat the Lady Rebels.
Pillow led 17-6 at the end of the first and held that lead for the next two quarters, leading 28-18 at the half and 41-31 at the end of the third. But the Lady Mustangs pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Rebels 28-14 to take the win.
Caroline Mumme led the Lady Rebels with 20 points while Sandy Rhea Tackett added nine points and Belle Sanders had seven points.
The Lady Rebels gave North Delta all they wanted but came up five points short.
North Delta led 17-11 at the end of the first and outscored Carroll 24-10 in the second period to take a 41-21 lead at the half. But Carroll gradually fought back as they outscored North Delta 17-6 in the third and 15-11 in the fourth.
“We have played a really tough schedule,” CA girls coach Sherry Fulton said. “I think we are getting better and I hope this schedule prepares us for our district.”
Caroline Mumme led the Lady Rebels with 18 points while Gracie Turner added 14 points. Sandy Rhea Tackett also had 10 points.
