“I love everything about this program,” said Bro. Gary Anglin of First Baptist Church of Winona. “It has all the ingredients to be a beautiful worship experience.”
Anglin is the Minister of Music for FBC Winona and director of The Singing Christmas Tree event set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec.3 at 3 p.m.
Anglin said the program will begin with a hand bell choir and a male quartet. A full orchestra (strings, wood -winds, brass, percussion, and piano and organ) will accompany the 50 voice choir. The tree itself is two stories tall and covered with lights and decorations.
At the beginning, the music reflects the longing of the people of Israel to hear from God, who had been silent for 400 years. At last, God fulfills His prophecies and appears on earth in the form of a baby. The heavens open with glorious music.
Anglin said there will be many familiar carols and some new powerful music that is both exciting and moving.
“I can tell you this, I have done Christmas programs for 50 years,” Anglin said. “This is the most beautiful and stirring music program I've ever done.”
“I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of the Singing Christmas Tree,” said choir member Priss Ferguson. “Gary is so enthusiastic about the message of our cantata, ‘The Silence and the Sound.’ It is a very special time for our choir and church to share with our community.”
Admission is free, but call the church office or come by and get tickets to ensure their seats on the dates are available. FBC Winona encourages churches to attend as a group. Reserved seating will be for groups over 10. Ticket holders will be allowed in early. Those without tickets will be seated 15 minutes before the program if any seats are available.
