The Carroll Academy football team enjoyed an off week as they prepared for a key district matchup with Marshall Academy.
Head coach Bo Milton said he thought the Rebels had a good week of practice during the off week.
“They were good practices, short and sweet,” Milton said. “It was a little intense on Tuesday and Wednesday and we gave them Thursday and Friday off. We got a lot of reps in. We were off here last year when Columbus Christian cancelled on us. When you are 1-5, sometimes a deep breath isn’t a bad idea. A few days and nights away can be a good thing.”
The Rebels will return to action this week as they take on Marshall.
The Patriots are 5-3overall with losses to Greenville Christian (34-21), Magnolia Heights (13-0) and Kirk (17-14). They have wins over Rossville (47-8), Oak Hill (42-0), North Delta (28-0), Indianola (35-7) and Lee (41-6).
“They have a little different team than they had last year,” Milton said jokingly. “It would be nice to plan an MAIS school ever now and then. But I think it’s a winnable game. They are kind of like us. They go under center a lot and do some two tights and some double slot. But I would say they are mostly a spread team. We worked on them last week but mainly just worked on getting us better.”
Milton said it’s time that the Rebels got the ball to bounce their way.
“It would be nice to catch some breaks and so far we haven’t caught any breaks,” Milton said. “I don’t think our losses are from lack of effort but nothing has really gone our way. You start the year by losing your quarterback and it’s been tough since then. But we will play out these last three games and see where we are at. We were 1-5 at this time last year and got on a roll and that’s the plan this year.”
