The Carroll Academy boys warmed up for the upcoming district tournament with a pair of easy wins this past week.
The Rebels dominated a pair of opponents, beating Deer Creek 49-33 and Calhoun Academy 57-22.
The Lady Rebels split a pair of games, beating Deer Creek 36-21 but falling 36-34 to Calhoun.
The Carroll boys are the No. 3 seed in the district tournament at Winona Christian and will play Madison St. Joseph on Friday at 5:15 p.m. The Carroll girls are also the No. 3 seed and will play Central Holmes on Friday at 4 p.m.
The girls’ championship game is set for 3:30 p.m. while they boys is set for 4:45 p.m.
Carroll boys 49, Deer Creek 33
The Rebels jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 16-point win over the Warriors.
Carroll led 12-3 at the end of the first and 23-11 at the half. Deer Creek then outscored Carroll 12-10 in the third to cut the lead to 33-23 going to the fourth. But Carroll outscored Deer Creek 16-10 in the fourth to take the win.
Noah Beck led Carroll with 18 points while Brennan Blaylock had 15 points. Nathan Matthews also had seven points for the Rebels.
Carroll girls 36, Deer Creek 21
The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Warriors in every period and took a 15-point win.
Carroll led 7-4 at the end of the first and then outscored Deer Creek 12-9 in the second to lead 19-13 at the half. Carroll continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Deer Creek 9-5 in the third and 8-3 in the fourth.
Anna Laken Taylor led Carroll with 13 points while Anna Shelby Whitworth had 11 points. Bella Carter also chipped in six points.
Carroll boys 57, Calhoun 22
The Rebels dominated the first three periods and took a 35-point win over the Cougars.
Carroll led 15-7 at the end of the first and then outscored Calhoun 24-5 in the second to lead 39-12 at the half. The Rebels then outscored the Cougars 16-5 in the third to stretch the lead to 55-17 going to the fourth. Calhoun took the fourth period 5-2 with a running clock.
Noah Beck led Carroll with 22-point while Mathis Beck and Drake Dunn each had 10 points apiece. Owen Garrett also had seven points for the Rebels.
Calhoun Academy girls 36, Carroll 34
The Lady Rebels couldn’t hold onto an early lead and dropped a two-point decision to the Lady Cougars.
Carroll led 9-5 at the end of the first but Calhoun outscored the Lady Rebels 11-5 in the second to lead 16-14 at the half. Carroll bounced back in the third and outscored Calhoun 11- to regain the lead at 25-23. But Calhoun took the fourth period 13-9 to take the two-point win.
Anna Laken Taylor led Carroll with 11 points while Meri Brynn Reeves had nine points and Anna Shelby Whitworth had eight points.
