Whereas the service rendered the United States by the American mother is the greatest source of the country's strength and admiration; and Whereas we honor ourselves and the mothers of America when we do anything to give emphasis to the home; and Whereas the American mother is doing so much for good government and humanity, we declare that the second Sunday of May will henceforth be celebrated as Mother's Day.
Congressional Resolution 1914
Do you remember the television show Queen for a day? The woman selected from many contestants would share her story of need, and the requests cut deep into our hearts. When the winner is announced, she is draped in a cloak and crown, and she is then the center of attention and her wish comes true.
Remembering mother, it always appeared to me that she could master anything, so I will use a much-overused word today and say she was awesome! No mother is perfect, but in our eyes she was close. Whether dressed up or in everyday attire, she always stood out as someone my sister and I desired to be like. Her wit and wisdom took us through our young lives and as adults. She was, and is, ever-present. She was our Queen for a Day!
Any mother could perform the
jobs of several air-traffic
controllers with ease.
