Preston Eugene Cantner of McCarley passed from this life to the next on May 8, 2025, at the age of 74 at University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Ruth Earline Cantner and Neil Frederick Cantner, and his brothers Phillip Neil Cantner of Pensacola, Florida and Frederick Alan Cantner of Greenwood, Mississippi.
He graduated from Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida and Florida State University with a BS in History and studied Civil Engineering at Mississippi State University. He worked as a surveyor, a security officer in Alaska, and truck driver in the United States and in Iraq. He retired in McCarley, Mississippi and spent his final years as an artist, writer, builder, and inventor.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mickey Cantner of Pensacola, Florida and his niece Cassandra Cantner of Houston, Texas and numerous family members and friends.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Carroll County at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, with the Rev. Gary Tanner and Rev. Jerry McNeer officiating. He will be buried in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
