With the Nov. 5 General Election less than a month away, absentee voting has been going on at the courthouse.
History shows that these presidential election years are generally high turnout compared to midterm election years like in 2022. Presidential elections are always used as a historical reference, for example the 1960 election between Kennedy and Nixon with the first televised debate with the actual candidates. The digital collections of the Library of Congress contain a large selection of primary source materials associated with presidential elections from 1789 to 1920, including manuscripts, letters, broadsides, government documents, prints, photographs, sheet music, sound recordings, films, and newspaper articles.
The federal election with the presidential race is very important including the congressional, judicial, and school board elections. The have a direct impact on taxes, infrastructure, school funding, healthcare, the judicial system, foreign policy, and host of other issues that resonates from the nation’s capital to the street by your house. I know for example I have called on the congressional delegation countless times to help with funding and constituent services for North Carrollton. According to Secretary of State Michael Watson’s office as of Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS) reported a total of 38,875 absentee ballots requested, 36,539 absentee ballots sent, and 23,434 absentee ballots received in the state of Mississippi for the 2024 Nov.General Election.
As a reminder, the requested total reflects the number of Mississippi voters who have requested an absentee ballot through their local Circuit Clerk's Office. The sent total reflects the number of absentee ballots sent to voters from Circuit Clerk Offices. The received total reflects the number of completed absentee ballots returned to Circuit Clerk Offices.
