Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Jenkins Varnes, of Winona, were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at William Springs Church of God in Stewart with burial following in Free Will Cemetery in Stewart. The Rev. Phil Hobson, the Rev. Bill Mills, and the Rev. John Lumbley officiated the service. Pallbearers were Chris Varnes, Waylon Varnes, Michael Williams, Danny Varnes, Jr., Carl Kelly, Jr., and Jamie Varnes. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Williams, James Ervin, and Matthew Varnes.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 23, from 11 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Varnes, 95, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Vaiden Community Living Center. She was born in Choctaw County to James Caradine and Eunie Eva Jenkins on November 4, 1928. She was a member of William Springs Church of God and a homemaker.
Mrs. Varnes is survived by her two daughters Bonnie Jean Williams (Hank) and Elizabeth Ann Woods (Bobby); four sons, James William Varnes, Jr. (Polly), Randy Lee Varnes, Danny Earl Varnes, and Ricky Dale Varnes (Dianne). Mrs. Varnes also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James William Varnes, Sr., and all of her siblings.
